Co-Occurring Disorders: Making the Case for Integrated Care (Self-Study)

This training is presented by Delores Blackwell, PhD. LCSW – New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University /Opioid Response Network.

Co-occurring disorders, particularly mental health and substance use, can often present as a challenge for providers. For many clients presenting with cooccurring disorders it can be difficult to assess what symptoms may have presented first and then how to manage these in treatment to support the client. In this recorded training, participants will be able to discuss the comorbidity of substance use and mental health disorders and their prevalence within the United States. Participants will identify evidence-based screening and assessment tools that assist in supporting effective and appropriate diagnosing of substance use and mental health diagnoses and learn how to effectively intervene to address unhelpful substance use for individuals with mental health disorders.
