The 6-part Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training series provides a comprehensive exploration of CBT principles and applications across various mental health domains. Beginning with an introduction to foundational CBT concepts, participants engage in practical exercises to socialize clients to CBT. The subsequent weeks delve into specialized areas, including the specific cognitive models for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety, and Depression. Led by guest presenter, Gianna LaLota, the series also explores the benefits of using CBT in group settings, emphasizing a skill -based curriculum and the role of homework. The training concludes with a focus on CBT techniques for addressing substance use, offering participants a well-rounded understanding of how to apply CBT principles across diverse mental health challenges. Throughout the series, participants actively engage in hands-on activities, discussions, role-play simulations, and reflective homework assignments to enhance their proficiency in utilizing CBT techniques with their clients.
This first session in the series will introduce participants to foundational CBT principles, exploring the generic Cognitive Model and practicing techniques like the Intra-Personal Thought Record. The training will introduce participants to cognitive distortions and how these present in treatment. Participants will identify important aspects of a CBT session including goals checklist and the use of a cognitive model for conceptualization. The session will also discuss the use of practical tools like Weekly Mood Measures and the Evaluation of Therapy Session Form and culminates in homework assignments focusing on personal reflection.
